In her blog Belle de Jour once described herself as an " alpha stiletto-wearing, lingerie-obsessed, Pulitzer-reading female", well it seems that actress Billie Piper has become the role at least as far as the lingerie obsession is concerned. In this interview she describes how before playing the role of call girl Belle in the ITV2 series ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ she had little interest in what was in her underwear drawer but has now become a lingerie shopaholic.

The Secret Diary of a Call Girl is the sexually explicit story of a beautiful prostitute who leads the ultimate double life. To her parents she’s Hannah, the legal secretary. To her clients Belle is whatever they want her to be. She can be the quiet girl-next-door. Or she can be the high-heeled dominatrix who whips them into submission; “Be fabulous but forgettable” is Belle's motto when she's out working. Her mission is to make money by satisfying male fantasies.

The series has been nominated for Best Soft Core Production in the UK Adult Film and Television Awards and is the only mainstream production to be nominated.
"The sheer fact that the series was aired is a reflection of the changing attitudes in British society, which has traditionally been very conservative in its public attitude to sex," said awards chairman Phil Black, who commended Piper for her "brave" performance.
