Kolkata News: 12 Buses Burnt, Kolkata Bandh Tomorrow

Kolkata News: (14.15hrs, 16th JULY, 2009) From what seems to be an apparent political clash that has stretched its limits to severe atrocity, 12 govt. buses have been burnt so far in many places like sealdah, moulali, laketown, baguiati etc. Agitators, (sources say they are from TMC and Congress ) have mobbed different places  and the situation is scarily not under control as the administrators haven’t still shown any significant step.

Previously, the Congress and Trinamool alliance had staged protests and road blocks in various parts of the State. The allies are protesting the attack on eight MLAs including Manas Bhuiya and Ratindranath Chatterjee that happened yesterday night at Dhannakhuri in Burdwan. A 12 hour bandh is on in Katwa while Ghatal, NH60 near Birbhum, NH 34 near Baharampur, places in Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 parganas and West Midnapore are facing road blockades. We will update you with news as soon as we get them.

A 12 hour bandh has been announced for tomorrow by Congress. Congress legislature party leader Manas Bhuinya told reporters that a 12-hour shutdown had been called in 12 of the 19 districts of the state on Friday. The Congress activists set fire to a bus on Howrah bridge, which links Kolkata with the busy Howrah railway station, police said.

“They (Congress workers) have obstructed all major road junctions across the state,” said a police officer. Suburban and long distance train services of eastern and southeastern railway were badly hit as party activists blocked railway tracks.
